The research feat of the African Centres of Excellence for Genomics of Infectious Diseases (ACEGID) domiciled in Redeemer’s University (RUN), Ede Osun State has continued to reverberate with the successful exploit of the Centre in addressing a potential threat from a white powdery substance in a passport received by the Consular section at the United States Embassy in Abuja.
Following the May, 2018 release of a pre-announcement letter to introduce the Africa Centres of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE Impact) Project, so that potential applicants could begin to develop their Proposals, the National Universities Commission (NUC) hereby calls for Proposals from all universities in Nigeria.
The Africa Centers of Excellence for Development Impact (ACE Impact) project anticipates the formal launch of a Call for Proposals in May 2018. Eligible higher education institutions from eligible countries in West and Central Africa will be encouraged to submit proposals that address a regional Development Challenge through a focused program of postgraduate education and applied research.
In a keynote address, the Minister, who was represented by the ES of the NUC, Prof. Rasheed, commended the Management of the UniPort for the achievements recorded by the University, especially in the performance of CEFOR, which, since inception, had graduated a total of 39 PhD students, more than any other ACE in Nigeria.
The Executive Secretary, NUC Professor Abubakar A. Rasheed, has challenged participants at the workshop on the proposed Higher Education Reform and Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) to proffer solutions to the lingering crises confronting higher education in Nigeria.
