Following the recent retirement of two Directors and vacuum created in the positions in the affected Directorates, the duo of Dr. Mrs. Funmilayo Jumoke Morebise and Barr. Samuel  Sardauna Adejoh have been appointed Acting Directors of Open, Distance and e-Learning (DODel) and Establishment of Private Universities  (DEPU), respectively, in order to provide stable leadership in the system.

The appointments followed their recommendations by the Management Committee chaired by the Acting Executive Secretary, NUC, Mr. Chris J. Maiyaki. Their separate letters of appointment signed by the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Maiyaki dated 3rd May, 2024, for both Mrs. Morebise and Barr. Adejoh reads inter alia, “The appointment is in recognition of your performance, loyalty, commitment to duty and high sense of responsibility.

“While congratulating them on their appointments, the letter further read: “the Commission look forward to your sustained interest and proactive service in the collective efforts at moving the Nigerian University System forward.”    In the letter of assignment, Mrs. Moberise is the Acting Director, DODel while Barr. Adejoh takes charge of the Directorate of Establishment of Private Universities. 

The release signed by the Acting Executive Secretary, Mr. Maiyaki, declared that the posting of both officers take effect from 2nd of May, 2024. The letters of appointment were handed over to the new Acting Directors by Deputy Executive Secretary (DES) Academics, Dr. Noel Biodun Saliu, on behalf of the Acting Executive Secretary.

… Profile of Dr. Mrs. Morebise

Dr. Mrs. Funmilayo Jumoke Morebise graduated with a Bachelor degree in Pharmacy (B. Pharm,) with distinction from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-ife in 1998 and later obtained a   Master and PhD in Public Health, 2008 and 2018 respectively, from the University of Ilorin.

She joined the services of the National Universities Commission in January  2010 on transfer of Service from the Health and Human Services Secretariat, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) as Principal Academic Standards Officer, in the then Department of Academic Standards (DAS) now Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP). While in the Academic Standards Department, she gained vast experience, traversing the various academic activities of the department and units.

While in the then Academic Standards Department her responsibilities included the design and planning of undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum of Nigerian Universities, resource verification and accreditation activities.  To her credit, she was responsible for ensuring the arrangement of all undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of all the disciplines in the Nigerian University System (NUS) and also used her experience to   redesign and develop the new B.Pharm programme, currently in use in Nigerian universities.

Dr. Morebise was promoted to Assistant Chief Academic Standards Officer in January 2013 from where she also rose steadily to become a Deputy Director in January 2020. She was then posted to the Directorate of Research, Innovations and Information Technology (DRIIT) as Head of Resource Planning and Administration.  In the course of her duties in DRIIT, she was in charge of the coordination and administration of research activities in the Department as well as liaising with the universities on their research programmes.

Following her dedication and loyalty to the course of various assignments and the experience she garnered, She was at some point deployed to the Directorate of Executive Secretary’s Office (DESO), where she was assigned as Deputy Director in charge of the administration of the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary (DES) Administration between (Jan and July, 2021) and was later posted back to DRIIT in July 2021 where she continued to serve as Head of Resource Planning and Administration.

Following a commission-wide posting of Deputy Directors in 2023, she was moved again to the Directorate of Academic Planning (DAP) as Head of Resource and Strategic Division, a duty she discharged quite creditably.

While in the Directorate of Academic Planning, Dr. Mrs. Morebise also served as a representative of NUC at the National Council on Education, the highest decision making body on education in Nigeria at the reference, plenary, technical and ministerial meetings. She also held many ad-hoc positions in the course of her public service career, including Secretary, Federal Government’s Visitation Panel to French Language Village, Badagry, in 2021. Her last position was as Deputy Director, Resource and Strategic Planning Division of the Directorate of Academic Planning, which she occupied since 2023, until her new elevation as Acting Director, Directorate of Open, Distance and e-Learning (DODel) on the 2nd of May, 2024.

The new Acting Director Open, Distance and e-Learning, Mrs. Moberise, who hails from Akinyele Local Government Area of Oyo State, is also a consultant Pharmacist and fellow of the West Africa Post-graduate College of Pharmacists (WAPCP) where she obtained her fellowship in social and administrative pharmacy with special award, and currently a fellow of Africa Institute of Public Health Professionals (FAIPH).

She is a very energetic and team player, problem solver and resource mobiliser as well as lover of youths, women and children. She has presented papers and attended conferences, both internationally and locally. Her ability to multi-task, work with different people and drive result was recognised by the Osun State Government, where she was recognised amongst her fellow central facilitators in 2014.  She is married with children.
