The Federal Government approved the establishment of 8 new Private Universities at its Federal Executive Council meeting which held on Wednesday, 2nd of November 2016.
The National Universities Commission (NUC) has scrapped sub-degree diploma programmes in the Nigerian University System (NUS), with a call on universities running them to begin the process of winding them down.
At an interactive meeting with staff, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed expressed delight at the warm reception accorded him by the entire workforce. This, he said, was very touchy and humbling for him. He added that as a person, he had been lucky in all his assignments.
Professor Adamu Abubakar Rasheed, mni, MFR, on Wednesday, 3 August, 2016, took over as the new Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC) from the Acting Executive Secretary, Professor Chiedu Felix Mafiana. This followed the approval of his appointment by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, as the substantive Chief Executive of the Commission.
Erstwhile Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius A Okojie OON, on Monday 1st August 2016 handed over the affairs of the Commission to Acting Executive Secretary Professor Chiedu Felix Mafiana as directed by the Honorable Minister of Education Mallam Adamu Adamu.
The NgREN has secured access to all Ebsco host e-books collections and seven (7) Ebsco host research databases among which are full text e-journals, periodicals and magazines of several academic disciplines and professional specializations. These will be available for free to many Nigerian Universities until December 31st, 2016.
