When the computer is turned on it emits a series of beeps and does not POST. This can be
caused by a bad:

  • A. CMOS battery.
  • B. video card.
  • C. IDE cable.
  • D. floppy cable.

Depending on the beeps, you can actually know quite a bit. The most common cause is a Video Card but on a Mac it not turn on and beep three times, to indicate a RAM issue.

I don't quite understand. Isn't the power on self test (POST) the reason for the beeps?
